Intern Application & Placement Process
Aplication and Placement Process
INITIAL CONTACT
Prospective interns may reach out directly to school sites and school counselors.
--or--
They may be directed to go to our website by their University.
DIRECT PROSPECTIVE INTERNS TO OUR WEBSITE
Direct prospective interns to www.sausd-schoolcounseling.com and the Intern link at the top of the page.
From here they can learn about our district, our programs, and how to become a school counseling intern in Santa Ana Unified.
PROSPECTIVE INTERNS COMPLETE THE GOOGLE FORM APPLICATION
Gone are the days of accepting interns and hoping they are a good fit. The new process allows us to screen interns and allows sites to interview prospective interns to ensure they will be a good fit for their school site and counseling team.
During the application, they can request a specific school site, setting, grade level, or specific site supervisor.
APPLICATIONS SENT TO SCHOOL SITES FOR CONSIDERATION
The Department of Transition Support Services sends school sites intern information to allow them to screen prospective interns before interviewing them. If they are interested in interviewing the intern they reach out to schedle an interview.
INTERVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE
School sites interview prospective interns and decide if they would like to host the intern. If they choose not to host the intern the school site contacts the Department of Transition Support Services to arrange for an alternative placement.
CONFIRMATION OF PLACEMENT
If a school site decides to host the intern they complete the Placement Confirmation Form and Google Placement Confirmation with the intern to notify the District Office of the placement. This ensures we know where interns are placed, we have their contact information, and HR knows where to directs stipends to should they be provided for in the MOU with the University.
